Midfield Terminal Building, United Arab Emirates

Midfield Terminal Building, Abu Dhabi - The Midfield Terminal Complex is the ultimate in construction sites.
Midfield Terminal Building, Abu Dhabi - Over 6,000 PD 8 slab tables are in continuous use which is the equivalent to an area of almost 10 football pitches.
Midfield Terminal Building, Abu Dhabi - The massive beams are being constructed in one pour together with the slabs.
Midfield Terminal Building, Abu Dhabij - Moveable PD 8 slab tables form the load-bearing sub-structure along the beams; for the slabs, MULTIFLEX girder slab formwork is used.
Midfield Terminal Building, Abu Dhabi - Easy lateral transport: the PD 8 slab tables can be moved by hand by means of a transportation trolley. This reduces crane requirements quite considerably.
Midfield Terminal Building, Abu Dhabi - PD 8 is the proven shoring system for slab tables and accommodates high loads. With only two different frame heights, almost any required height can be realized.

  • X-shaped airport terminal building (Midfield Terminal Building MTB), situated between two runways, with capacity for 65 large aircraft
  • 50 m high seven-storey central structure (Central Processor) with a total area of 700,000 m²
  • 12,000 laborers at site working in shifts
  • Scheduled opening in 2017 for up to 30 million passengers annually

Requirements

  • Quick processing 700,000 m³ concrete and 200,000 t steel
  • Completion of all structural works in 18 months only
  • In-sequence delivery of huge material quantities
  • Realisation of varying slab geometries and heights
  • Possibility to handle formwork and scaffolding manually due to limited crane disposability
