Moorebank Intermodal Terminal

Moorebank Intermodal Terminal
Sydney, Australia

This project will transform the way freight moves through Botany Bay in Sydney’s south-west and become a world reference for intermodal excellence.
The proposed facility will be the first and largest of its kind to be built in Australia.
The terminal is a first step to providing an integrated transport solution to meet the significant growth in the movement of freight to, from and within the Sydney basin, and will provide significant congestion relief, freight capacity and environmental benefits to the urban community, region and its surroundings.

The Project

Impressions from the project process
After receiving designs from PERI Australia and several competitors we found PERI to have the most efficient design with components that were easily managed either manually or using small cranes. With the restricted footing space on site the cantilever support soffit was designed so that it could be assembled on ground and lifted in using a mobile crane which reduced high-risk construction work over the Georges River. Both assembly and dismantling of the falsework happened without issues, even though the soffit of headstocks are not level the various jacking heights through the falsework did not require amending from design to reach correct heights.
